School transition committee hears from consolidation veterans

WREG covers a meeting of the school transition group meeting with the folks behind the consolidation of schools in Hamilton county (story here).

Perhaps the committee should also hear from these UT Martin professors, who seem to have reached some very different conclusions.

UPDATE: An earlier story in the CA quotes Chattanooga City School Board member Sherman Matthews, who told a gathering in Memphis that school consolidation there resulted in “busing problems, tax increases and a diminishment of urban programs,” predicting consolidation here will bring “a loss in jobs, benefits and salary for teachers.”
