Mayor and Aldermen set Aug 2 school referendums

The Bartlett Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved on third and final reading a measure that sets a referendum on the creation of a Bartlett municipal school system. Bartlett voters will weigh in on August 2, 2012, on the question of whether to create a city school system.

The referendums coincide with the already-scheduled county general and state primary elections. There will be a separate referendum on the issue of school funding. Bartlett voters will decide whether to increase the local-option sales tax rate by a half-cent to help fund a new system.

The City of Bartlett also set November 6 as the date members of the new school board would be elected.
